DESCRIPTION:
Declamation is the recitation of a poem,
from memory. The poem must be
selected from
the list of poems. Declamation is verbal
expression
only. No costumes or histrionics
will be allowed. Please refer to the list of
poems
from last year.
GUIDELINES FOR JUDGES:
The judges will have at hand the selections
from the list of poems
Judges are requested
to set high but reasonable standards; however,
they have to keep in mind that the competitors
are middle and senior high
school students.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
1. Overall intonation and rhythm.
2. Correct pronunciation and stress.
3. Proficiency in handling difficult structures.
4. Memorization.
5. Poise, posture and eye contact.
NOTE: Poems can be obtained from the different textbooks and anthologies.
