SPEECH

 

DESCRIPTION:

The “ speech includes” a variety of subjects
followed by a series of questions from the judges
varying in difficulty according to the language level.
Impromptu speech is offered at all levels.

CONDITIONS:

Preparation: The best preparation is classroom conversation.
For the speech there is an element of chance in
regard to the topic one may draw. A quick mind, good
vocabulary, and the fluency appropriate for each level is
necessary for success.

 

TIME LIMIT:

For Levels I and II, one minute. For all other levels, two minutes, to be followed by three (3) questions on the same topic.

 

A. Each contestant will draw two (2) topics. He(she) will then notify his (her) topic selection to the judges.

B. The speech will be timed and noted on the evaluation sheets.

 

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:

1. Communication (emphasizes student's ability to integrate and convey several related ideas without excessive repetition).

2. Pronunciation and stress.

3. Variety of vocabulary and grammatical structure.

4. Length of speech.
